Coach Service from London to the Alps
An alternative way to the Alps that produces significantly less carbon than flying
Snow Express has been operating a coach service from London Victoria to over 40 ski resorts in the French Alps for more than 10 years, but is seeing a significant growth in interest for the 2019-20 season due to increasing concerns over the environmental impact of flying.
A flight and transfer to the ski resort of Tignes typically uses around 82KG of carbon per person, whist the entire journey by Snow Express coach, including the ferry crossing, typically uses around 12KG of carbon per person. The cost of travelling by coach to the Alps is also typically much less than by air or rail (a Geneva-Tignes shared transfer alone typically costs £95), making it more affordable for families and those on a tighter budget, even during the high season weeks when flights can sometimes be up to 10 times higher* in price than during off-peak times.
No Extra Costs
Snow Express charges from £99 return from London to whatever the chosen resort might be, and that includes luggage and ski carriage. No extra charges, no further transfer costs.
Dave Manley from Snow Express said: “Travel doesn’t always have the best reputation when it comes to the environment, but the fact is that coach travel is one of the best ways to get to the Alps if you want to cut your carbon footprint compared to flying. We thought the train would beat the coach hands down but actually there’s not much difference in it when it comes to carbon emissions per person when we looked closely at the numbers. All our vehicles are Euro 6 Compliant, which is the highest level of emissions standard there is right now”.
Iain Martin from the website Ski Flight Free, said: “Travelling by coach on your ski holiday is a much more carbon efficient way of travelling to the Alps than flying”.
Weekly Coach Service to Popular Alps Resorts
Snow Express offers a weekly service every Friday (from 13 December 2019) during the ski season departing at 18.30 hrs from London Victoria Colonnade Coach Station (or Folkestone) to over 40 ski resorts in the French Alps, returning on the following Saturday afternoon at 17.30 and arriving back in the UK on Sunday morning. The final departure date of the season is 10 April 2020.
There are no excess baggage charges for luggage or winter sports equipment and travel is direct to the resort itself. Fares start from £99.00 per person return from London or Folkestone to the resort of choice, between December and April every winter. The most popular resorts are Tignes, Val Thorens, Chamonix and Val d’Isère and coaches are all modern, comfortable vehicles especially designed for long distance touring. It’s also normal to get an extra days skiing during the week due to times of departure and departing from central London on a Friday evening means locals can leave directly after work – Snow Express also has a partnership with National Express, so skiers and snowboarders from all over the country and link up with the departure times on the Friday evening.
